Mark Liberman writes about an amusing goof that I also noticed in the most recent New Yorker: a prayer that every lion tongue would be cast down, and suggests the New Yorker hire ‘theory checkers’ in addition to ‘fact checkers.’

    Reminds me of the crusade I carried out against the Kalamazoo Gazette sports department for several years when they insisted on describing regattas along the lines of “Oxford’s 8-man crew rowed its *skull* down the Thames in record time”…
